My Passion + My Mission

I’d like to start the beginning of this journey of blogging by introducing myself and giving you an insight as to the content you’ll be reading here. Let’s get the formalities out of the way – my name is Clare Hansen, a wife, mother of 5 and grandmother of 2 (they are my favorite little humans EVER!!) I own my business ~ Second Stitch to the Right. I started this business when I had raised all my children and wanted to dip my toes back into the working world as I was a stay-at-home mom for 25 years. I knew I wanted to do something that I was passionate about and I knew I could do well. I was given the gift of craft ~ more specifically quilting and sewing by my beloved grandmother (this women had the patience of Job, I swear) When I made a quilt for my granddaughter, it ignited the passion of this art once again and I knew what I wanted to do.

Armed with this desire, I opened my shop June 1, 2015 and hit the ground running.  I believe passionately in the value of handmade. I’ve dedicated myself to making nothing but quality product that is attractive as well as functional. Since then, there has been no looking back and I look forward to what the future has to bring.  I’ve opened this space with my own shop, a blog and newsletters to come.  I’ve been in the world of raising children for a long time and have gained a love & passion for them. I also know the trials & tribulations that go along with that. I’ve felt the exhilaration of giving birth, the exciting times of watching them grow and the exhaustion of long days & sleepless nights. Lets just say ~ I’ve been there!!  So while my shop gives me an outlet for my creative hand work, my hope is that this blog will give voice to what I have learned along the path of motherhood. I will also share lessons learned from others.
Why is my blog titled ‘Rainy Days & Mondays’ you might ask? It’s simple, unlike the Carpenters’ song from the 70’s, I actually love Rainy Days and feel inspired by Mondays.  I’m not a hot weather person. So living in California isn’t exactly where I thought I’d establish my roots, but that’s where I am and that’s where I’ve bloomed. Make lemonade out of lemons, right?? As far as Mondays go, I’ve always felt that they have received a bad rap. Mondays bring the possibilities of new beginnings, a better week, and a chance to redeem ourselves. And lets not forget that the kids go back to school - we’ve all felt that relief, right?
Let’s get down to the nitty gritty of what you’ll be reading here on this little blog of mine. Whether read by friends and family or people far and wide, at least I will have written down somewhere what I love to do:  motherhood tips and advice (and lessons I’ve learned from my mistakes); information about my business; helpful tips on the craft of quilting and sewing; sharing my favorite recipes. Last, but not least, I hope to travel to the homes of some amazing moms and share with you how they have navigated the path of  motherhood in the hope that one mothers experience will help another.  I'm planning to dish on cooking tips, laundry tips & mishaps, home organization, best cleaning schedules, how to survive a long family trip, handling the holidays with kids, how to do everything (Spoiler alert: you can’t!), plus weightier topics like infertility, miscarriage & depression. No topics off limit here!
So come along for the ride, the tears, the laughter, the knowledge & empowerment and maybe just some fun stories. I can’t wait to take you along on this journey and maybe make some great friends on the way. I’d love for you to leave a comment on my blog entries, I know I’ll read every one. By all means, share the post if you’ve read something you like or has touched you! I’d also love to hear any suggestions you might have for future posts and even share your stories with me!
xo, Clare
